Blaabjerg
Pack your lunch basket and go mountain climbing. In the middle of the beautiful Blaabjerg Plantation is the "mountain" that it has been named after. It is Denmark's highest dune, which with its 64 meters used to serve as seamark for the local fishers. From a distance, the dune looks blue - hence the name ("blue mountain").
Blaabjerg Plantation is a nice starting point for an outing in the forest.
The 4600 m_ large forest has marked trails and plenty of opportunities for great nature experiences for walkers as well as cyclists and riders.
Furthermore, the parking ground at Blaabjerg is the starting point for two mountain bike trails, the green trail of approx. four km and the black trail of approx. seven km and with a few more technical challenges on the way - such as the hill Rævebakken, which can make anyone get out of breath.
The plantation is 15 km long and you get the best overview from the top of the dune, where you will have a breathtaking view of the dunes, the sea and the forest.
The plantation was laid out during the second half of the 1800s on the initiative of dune planter Thyge de Thygeson, whose memorial stone made of granite from Bornholm is situated on the top of the dune. At that time, sand drift threatened to bury the houses in the area. The oak trees were certainly buried, and the bushes that stick out of the sand like oak scrub today are really treetops that have found their way through the sand.
